Sahra Odowa is a Democratic candidate for Minnesota State Senate District 55. The seat is currently held by Republican Eric Pratt.

Odowa is a first-generation American-Born Somali, born to parents who immigrated to the United States in the early 1980’s.

In a Facebook post Odowa wrote:

I am an American-born Somali. I am a mother to a beautiful 9-year old daughter.

My experience in working in the career areas of Public Health and in social services has allowed me to work with diverse populations in understanding the importance of actively listening to their concerns about their experiences in dealing with housing, healthcare, education, limited opportunities to flourish in the workforce- all of which are my duties as your State Senator to work in the District I call home and in the great state of Minnesota.

I am running for State Senate District 55 to work on creating better outcomes for all residents.

Odowa is the only candidate that has filed to run against Pratt.

The primary election will occur on August 11, 2020. The general election will occur on November 3, 2020.
