A city in Michigan is the first in the nation to elect an all-muslim city council.
I warned you 4 years ago that Hamtramck, Michigan was on the verge of being taken over, when I reported on 4 out of 6 of the city councilmembers being muslim. Now, all 6 councilmembers are muslim. Sadly, it doesn’t stop there. Hamtramck also elected a muslim mayor.
Khalil Refai, Amanda Jaczkowski and Adam Albarmaki were all elected to the Hamtramck City Council in November. Amer Ghalib was also elected Mayor of Hamtramck in November. The newly elected councilmembers and mayor were sworn into office on January 2nd.
According to Yahoo News:
About half of the city’s nearly 29,000 residents is estimated to be Muslim, according to census ancestry data, with many being of Arab and South Asian ethnicity. The city was originally a hub for Polish American immigrants and later became a haven to other immigrants as well, said M. Baqir Mohie El-Deen, policy program manager at the Muslim Public Affairs Council, or MPAC, who is also Michigan native.
Five of the council members are immigrants, and one is a convert to Islam.
The newly elected mayor is an immigrant from Yemen.
This is the first time in 100 years, a non-Polish mayor will lead Hamtramck.
