Former Black Panthers Lieutenant re-elected in Iowa

Former Black Panthers lieutenant Ako Abdul-Samad was re-elected to the Iowa House of Representatives to represent District 35.

Abdul-Samad won the Democratic primary election with 80.9% of the vote on June 2, 2020. He ran unopposed in the general election on November 3, 2020.

Abdul-Samad is a former Black Panther lieutenant and the writer/Producer/Director of Understanding Islam.

Abdul-Samad was first elected to the Iowa House of Representatives in 2007, after previously serving on the Des Moines School Board.
