On Tuesday CAIR announced they will be filing an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) discrimination complaint on behalf of a Maryland Muslim cashier who claims she was denied time to pray while working at a beauty supply store.

On Wednesday, May 6, representatives ofthe Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) will hold an online news conference to announce the filing of a U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) discrimination complaint on behalf of a Maryland Muslim woman and cashier at beauty supply store Beauty Max who was denied her rights to pray and to wear modest clothing at work.

On the woman’s first day at Beauty Max, in January 2020, employees and management denied her accommodation to pray in the store and told her, “I know you people have to pray, but you can’t do that here, none of that.” Beauty Max employees and management also denied the woman an accommodation to wear a full-length skirt. The woman repeatedly explained her faith’s requirements, but Beauty Max employees insisted she go home and change. The Maryland Muslim woman was forced to resign.
