LGBTQ Muslim Wins Board Of Education Race In Ohio

N.J. Akbar won the election for the Akron Board of Education, becoming the first LGBTQ muslim ever elected in Ohio.

According to Akbar’s website, he has served in many roles at Kent State University (KSU) and currently serves as Assistant Dean of Academic Diversity Success.

Akbar was endorsed by Summit County Progressive Democrats PAC, Planned Parenthood, Victory Fund and several other organizations.

Akbar previously ran for Akron Board of Education in 2017, but was defeated in that election.
