Muslim Woman Elected To Virginia State Senate

Democrat Ghazala Hashmi made history yesterday by becoming the first muslim elected to Virginia State Senate.

Hashmi defeated Republican incumbent Glen Sturtevant in the race for Virginia’s 10th Senate District.

Hashmi, a muslim immigrant from Pakistan, says she was inspired to run for office because of President Trump’s travel ban.
