Former refugee from Afghanistan elected to New Hampshire House of Representatives

In the 2018 election, Safiya Wazir (D) was elected to the New Hampshire House of Representatives, District 17.

Safiya Wazir, a 27-year-old muslim and former refugee from Afghanistan, defeated four-term New Hampshire state Rep. Dick Patten (D) in the primary and Dennis Soucy (R) in the general election.
