Noor is an ex-Minneapolis police officer, who shot and killed Justine Ruszczyk Damond, while on duty in July 2017. Damond called 911 because she heard a woman screaming in the ally and thought the woman was being raped. When officers arrived, Noor shot and killed Damond. Noor claimed that he shot Damond, because she startled him when she approached the police car in her pajamas.
In April 2019, Noor was convicted of murder.
According to reports, Minnesota State Representative, Hodan Hassan, asked the Judge to consider “Noor as a father, a sibling, a husband and a wonderful community member who have been a fine example of what a productive member of society looks like.”
Noor was sentenced to 12 1/2 years in prison.
Hassan is a Democratic member of the Minnesota House, representing District 62A. Hassan has been under fire in the past, for claiming that muslims are the real victims of the 9/11 terror attacks and for being sworn into office on a quran.
