Nigerian immigrant running for Nashville Metro Council at Large
Zulfat Suara, a Nigerian immigrant, is running for Nashville Metro Council at Large in Tennessee.
Suara came to the United States in the 1990’s and settled in Nashville in 1998.
Suara is chair of the American Muslim Advisory Council (AMAC)
According to reports,
Zulfat is the recipients of many awards and recognitions including, the FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award, the Muslim Advocate of the year, Outstanding Human Rights Awards Mpower Change -100 Muslim social justice leaders in the United States and Jackson Sun- 20 Most Influential Women in West Tennessee. On October 26, 2015, she was inducted into the Tennessee Women Hall of Fame by the Tennessee Economic Council on Women.
She has also been a speaker at the Nashville Women’s March each year since 2017.
The general election will be held on August 1, 2019.
