Michigan Attorney General Appoints Muslim Woman as Solicitor General

The Attorney General of Michigan, Dana Nessel, appointed Fadwa Hammoud, a muslim woman, as Solicitor General of Michigan.

Hammoud was previously an at-large member on the Dearborn Public Schools school board in Michigan. Hammoud was appointed to the board in 2015 and won re-election in 2016.

Fadwa Hammoud is the first Arab muslim person to hold this seat.

In a Facebook post from January 17th, Hammoud wrote:

I have been the lucky recipient of an outpouring of love and affirmation since my recent appointment as Michigan’s Solicitor General, and I am grateful to each of you for your faith in me. Thank you!

Yes, it is true that an Arab, Muslim person has not held this office before. I carry those communities and all that they teach me about loving equity and justice with me into this work. It is also true that a woman has never held this office in our state. I assume this office knowing that women who have come before me fought tooth and nail to make sure that an immigrant girl like me can aspire to the highest levels of public service.

The weight of this opportunity is not lost on me, and I am heartened by your affirmations and love.

With that said, I am laser focused on working closely with Attorney General Dana Nessel to protect all Michiganders and to make our state fundamentally more just for everyone who lives here.

Let’s do this!

  1. It’s important to point out that Dana Nessel, the new AG in Michigan, is the woman that claimed during the election that she had no penis. She brings more baggage than just her personal identity crisis.
