Chelsea Clinton defends Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, calls out President Trump

Chelsea Clinton took to Twitter to defend Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, who has been under fire for anti-Semitic comments.

On February 12th, President Trump called for Ilhan Omar’s resignation due to Omar’s  anti-Semitic comments. During a cabinet meeting, President Trump stated:

Anti-Semitism has no place in the United States Congress. Congressman Omar, it’s terrible what she said and I think she should either resign from Congress or she should certainly resign from the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

What she said is so deep-seeded in her heart that her lame apology, and that’s what it was, it was lame, and she didn’t mean a word of it, was just not appropriate.

I think she should resign from congress frankly, but at a minimum she shouldn’t be on committees and certainly that committee.

Chelsea Clinton took to Twitter to defend Omar and to question President Trump.

Chelsea wrote:

Mr. President, Congresswoman @IlhanMN apologized for using an anti-Semitic trope & demonstrated leadership. When have you ever apologized for your embrace of white nationalism & your exploitation & amplification of anti-Semitic, Islamophobic, racist, xenophobic, anti-LGBTQ hate?

But Chelsea didn’t stop there. She also replied to a Tweet from Vice President Mike Pence, defending Omar.

Vice President Mike Pence Tweeted:

tweets were a disgrace & her apology was inadequate. Anti-Semitism has no place in the United States Congress, much less the Foreign Affairs Committee. Those who engage in anti-Semitic tropes should not just be denounced, they should face consequences for their words.

Chelsea replied to Vice President Pence’s Tweet:

Mr. Vice President- Congresswoman @IlhanMN apologized. She has moved on to highlighting challenges facing McDonald’s workers.
President Trump, a far more powerful person in Washington, has never apologized for his embrace of white nationalism & anti-Semitic & Islamophobic hate.

This might be a bit of a surprise seeing how Chelsea previously condemned Omar’s anti-Semitic comments.

On February 10th, Batya Ungar-Sargon Tweeted to Ilhan Omar, writing:

Please learn how to talk about Jews in a non-anti-Semitic way. Sincerely, American Jews.

Chelsea replied to the Tweet, stating:

Co-signed as an American. We should expect all elected officials, regardless of party, and all public figures to not traffic in anti-Semitism.
