On Dec. 20th, Miguel Ibarra-Cerda was sentenced to 5 to 15 years in prison for the hit-and-run that killed 14 year old, Justin Lee.
On June 11th 2018, Justin Lee was hit by a speeding minivan that was going the wrong way in the road. After hitting Justin, the driver left the scene.
Miguel Ibarra-Cerda was arrested the next day.
Ibarra-Cerda came to the United States from Mexico, illegally in 2012. Authorities believe Ibarra-Cerda was headed back to Mexico after the fatal hit-and-run. But he was arrested before he could do so.
The trial for Ibarra-Cerda began late Nov. Yesterday, he was sentenced by Judge Cheryl Matthews, to 5 to 15 years in prison.
According to reports:
In handing down the sentence, Matthews said the case was “an extreme tragedy that destroyed two families and two young lives…nothing I can do can fix it. If I could push a rewind button, I would.”
Matthews said she considered Ibarra-Cerda’s age, lack of criminal history and other factors in deciding his sentence, but that his illegal immigration status didn’t come into play.
“It’s not the court’s role to punish someone that’s here illegally. That’s not my role,” Matthews said.
It sounds like Judge Matthews sympathizes with the illegal who took someone’s life, more than she does an American life being taken away forever.

5-15 Years is not a sentence, it’s a non specific insult and evidence that even judges practice political adjudication.
Eye for an eye for drunkenness while driving and all other non defensive crimes that were not only the result of drunken stupor but intending harm. Drink and drive is manslaughter and the sentences which involve death, should be death. Being illegal I am sure he’s begging for deportation. Death for death and fast tracked.
