Aisha Yaqoob is running to represent the 97th House District in the Georgia House of Representatives. Aisha is muslim, an activist and the daughter of Pakistani immigrants.
According to Aisha’s website:
Aisha is a professional advocate for immigrant rights at the state Capitol, working with legislators on both sides of the aisle to push for civil rights for immigrants and people of color. As policy director for a nonprofit legal and advocacy center, Aisha monitors local, state, and federal policies that affect immigrants and works to fight for their rights.
Aisha is passionate about voting rights, access to healthcare and education, and immigration. She believes in upholding the civil rights and civil liberties for all people, especially those whom have been historically underrepresented.
On Aisha’s website it also states:
While in graduate school Aisha founded the Georgia Muslim Voter Project, an organization whose mission is to increase voter turnout in the American Muslim community. In 2016 she and her team helped to increase voter turnout across Georgia in a community that has historically rarely participated in the electoral process.
She earned a 40 Under 40 Georgia Muslim Award from the Islamic Speakers Bureau of Atlanta (October 2016) and the Rising Star Community Champion Award from Asian Americans Advancing Justice Atlanta (October 2016). In 2015, Aisha earned a commendation from the Georgia General Assembly for work in the Georgia Muslim Community.
On May 23rd Aisha won the primary election. In a recent Facebook post she wrote:

Someone being a proper American has nothing to do with my reasons for not wanting Muslims to hold public office in America. Muslims believe in Sharia Law and their loyalty is to Sharia Law before it is to America. Sharia law allows children as young as 6 years of age to be married and marriage consummated as early as 9. Until age nine the man is allowed to “enjoy” the child in other ways. Sharia allows for any lie as long as it benefits Islam; Sharia allows for men to beat their wives and children as they are considered property; Sharia allows for female genitalia mutilation among those Muslims who choose to do so; Sharia law believes that eating of pork is unclean and therefore ask that others do not eat pork and in some circumstances ask that no advertising of pork be done in their presence or sight; Sharia law believes that dogs are unclean. Muslim taxi drivers refuse rides to anyone with a dog. Sharia Law believes that is is okay to kill anyone who is an infidel….which is anyone that does not believe in Islam. That is why I do not want Muslims holding public office. Check out what is happening in Michigan and Minnesota now in Muslim inhabited communities.

She is free to practice her religion, as we all are. And, we are free to reject her as a candidate for elective office because she practices a religion that teaches violence, abuse of women, and other things that an anathema to the American way of life. I do not suggest that she be forbidden to run for election. I call upon all American citizens who can vote in her district to vote for her opponent, as I plan to do.
