During a news conference, Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel claimed Scott Peterson, an armed school resource deputy was at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School during the entire shooting.
Sheriff Israel claimed Peterson stood outside of the school during the shooting instead of trying to stop the gunman. He said, “What I saw was a deputy arrive at the west side of building 12, take up a position and he never went in.”
Sheriff Israel said because of video, witness statements, and Scott Peterson’s own statement, he decided to suspend Peterson without pay, pending investigation. Peterson chose to resigned.
Sheriff Israel says police are not releasing video from the shooting at this time and that they may never release it.
