Alexis “Golden Girl” Lavarine, 14 year old, 2020 Olympic hopeful knew she wanted to start boxing at the young age of 7 years old. Alexis walked into the room while her father was watching boxing, and instantly knew she wanted to do it. At first, her father said no, and told her it was a boys sport. After 3 weeks trying to convince her father to change his mind, Alexis’s father took her to a boxing show, that she sat through for 7 hours. Next was going to the gym to try it out. As she thought she would, Alexis loved boxing, and has been boxing ever since.
According to TeamUSA.org Alexis has won 3 straight Ringside World Championships, 6 Title National Championships, 2016 USA Boxing Junior Open Champion, 2016 Junior Olympic medalist and was named the best athlete at her middle school.
Alexis says she sometimes trains 7 days a week, 3 times a day. But school always comes first. Alexis is a straight A student in all honors classes.
In the video below Alexis says,
“Some people don’t believe in women doing it just because we’re girls….People who don’t want me to do it, but I’m not going to let that bother me, I believe in myself. I like to push past what they say, and just use it as motivation towards myself”
Alexis also adds, “You don’t have to listen to the stereotypes, you just be yourself and be true to who you are ,and you can accomplish whatever you want.”
